Biography
Dustin Tomsen is a 21 year old guitarist, singer, songwriter, composer and producer from Oberammergau in the alps.
With more than 100 YouTube videos, as well as several TV and radio appearances, he has made a name for himself as a musician worldwide.
Dustin grew up in a musical family.
His father Thomas Tomsen is a professional musician who has worked with some famous musicians, like Herman Rarebell (Scorpions), Bob Daisley (Ozzy Osbourne), Rudy Sarzo (Ozzy Osbourne; Quiet Riot), Stuart Hamm, Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater; Planet X), Tony Franklin (The Firm; Whitesnake), Doug Pinnick (King's X; KXM), Michael Troy (Yngwie Malmsteen) and more.
Dustin's mother was a professional drummer, so from a young age Dustin wanted to make music, like his parents and learn to play an instrument himself.
At the age of four, his parents discovered that Dustin had perfect pitch and could even recognize the key of a drill or a refrigerator.
At the age of 2 Dustin first played drums and at the age of 4 he started playing keyboards.
Dustin started playing bass at age 7 and singing at age 9.
When Dustin was 5 years old he wanted to play guitar like his father who then taught him for 6 years, but later Dustin also taught himself a lot.
Dustin's early influences were KISS, Ace Frehley, Vinnie Moore, Joe Satriani, Gary Moore, AC/DC, ZZ Top, Rory Gallagher, Jimi Hendrix and many others...
At the age of 9, Dustin covered Gary Moore's instrumental hit "The Loner" which had almost 3.5 million views on YouTube.
In 2016, German television discovered Dustin's YouTube profile and invited him to appear in the second season of "Superkids" (on the channel Sat.1), where he reached the final.
Since then he has appeared on several television shows and his music has been played on many radio stations.
Since making music Dustin has personally interacted or performed with many people over the years such as Vinnie Moore (UFO; Alice Cooper), Ehrlich Brothers (magician), Bruce Kulick (KISS), Felix Neureuther (skier), Wayne Carpendale (actor), Doug Pinnick (King's X), Michelle Hunziker (TV host), Michael Angelo Batio, Paul Gilbert (Mr. Big; Racer X), Billy Sheehan (Mr. Big; The Winery Dogs), Frank Bello (Anthrax), Tosin Abasi, Dweezil Zappa, Alex Skolnick (Testament), Martin Breitkopf (ARD/BR), Henning Wehland (H-Blockx), Jason Becker (David Lee Roth), Sascha Quade (TV host), Lukas Rieger (singer), Chris Tall (comedian), Lola Weippert (TV host), Anna Steinhardt (actress), Henning Rümenapp (Guano Apes), Marc Vanderberg, Andrew "The Bullet" Lauer, and many others.
Dustin has been an official endorser of Ibanez Guitars since 2016 and an endorser of Hughes & Kettner amps since 2019.
On November 18th, 2019, Dustin released his first guitar instrumental album "Sound Of Broken Lights" which he recorded in his own studio at the age of 14.
(Cover artwork by Tristan Greatrex) and 4 days later, on November 22nd, 2019, he played live at Musikhaus Kirstein in Schongau, Germany and presented his new album at an "Album Release Party", after which a tour for the new album was planned.
But in February 2020 Dustin had to cancel further tour dates due to a left metacarpal fracture and take a break from using his left hand for months.
During this time he continued playing with his right hand and taught himself the "touch tapping technique", which was introduced by the legendary jazz/fusion guitarist Stanley Jordan (Jordan was also in the 1987 Hollywood movie "Blind Date" where he played himself alongside Bruce Willis and Kim Basinger).
In July 2020 Dustin was able to play with his left hand again and started playing with 2 hands on the fretboard at the same time.
Stanley Jordan saw Dustin's video covering the Stanley Jordan version of the Beatles song "Eleanor Rigby" on YouTube and then he invited Dustin to his "Integral Arts Academy", where Dustin took lessons from Stanley Jordan himself.
Dustin performed on the German version of "Got Talent" (Das Supertalent) in 2021 and got four yeses from the jury.
On October 8th, 2021, Dustin released his second album "Milk & Beer", which stayed in the top 100 of Amazon.com's Best Seller Download Charts for 8 weeks (to #11)...
Dustin Tomsen performed at the "MusiConnect 2022" event on September 17th, 2022, along with other artists such as Yasi Hofer (Helene Fischer; No Angels) and Thomas Blug ("Fender Strat King of Europe").
He did a workshop and a live performance there.
On October 29th, 2022, Dustin released his third album "Noises From The Ammertal", which he recorded, mixed and mastered in his own studio.
In the November 2022 issue of the German magazine "guitar" is an one-page interview with Dustin Tomsen.
Dustin has visited the Hughes & Kettner headquarters on January 6th, 2023 and recorded videos of his songs "Mystery Of The Ugly Tree", "The Drunk Bee" (from Dustin's third album "Noises From The Ammertal") and more, as well as a promotional video for the Hughes & Kettner StompMan, AmpMan Classic and AmpMan Modern (on the channels and pages of Musikhaus Kirstein)
The Meinl Company in Gutenstetten, Germany has invited Dustin to the "Meinl Kick Off Day" in January 2024, 2025 and 2026 to check out the new Ibanez guitar models of each year, together with many other well-known Ibanez artists like Martin Miller, Justin Hombach, Ralf Sommerfeld and more.
In June 2024 Dustin was seen and heard in the television documentary "The Rory Gallagher Story" on RTÉ One (Ireland) and BBC (UK) and his name was also in the credits of the film....
Many famous musicians like Brian May from Queen and many others tell their stories about Rory in this documentary...
On August 30th, 2024, Dustin released his fourth album "Space Splitter".
He played live at the "MusiConnect 2024" on 21st August 2024 again with Yasi Hofer and many other artists and bands, where he also presented some songs from the new album.
Dustin Tomsen has pre-released 3 singles from his upcoming album "More Milk & Beer" in 2025.
The first single "The Elder" (released on April 19th, 2025) features Lukas Kaminski (Stillbirth) on bass and Moritz Moroff on drums.
The second single "Moonchild" (Rory Gallagher cover; released on June 14th, 2025) features Gerry McAvoy (Rory Gallagher; Band Of Friends) on bass and Moritz Moroff on drums.
The third single "Secret Agent" (Rory Gallagher cover; released on August 15th, 2025) features Gerry McAvoy (Rory Gallagher; Band Of Friends) on bass, Neil Carter (Gary Moore; UFO) on keyboards and Moritz Moroff on drums.
On May 24th, 2025, Dustin was part of the "Ibanez Guitar Festival 2025" in Gutenstetten, Germany, alongside famous guitarists, like Paul Gilbert (Mr. Big; Racer X), Li-sa-X, Yasi Hofer (Helene Fischer; No Angels), Tom Quayle and many others.
Dustin plays a guest solo together with Joel Hoekstra (guitarist of Whitesnake, ex- Night Ranger and ex- Cher) on the song "Disoriented Desire" by Michael Martello, which was released on May 27th, 2025.
From September 26th - 28th, 2025, Dustin was part of the "Guitar Summit 2025" in Mannheim, Germany, and met many famous guitarists and bass players there, like Billy Sheehan (Mr. Big; The Winery Dogs), Andy Timmons, Frank Bello (Anthrax), Dweezil Zappa, Tosin Abasi, Alex Skolnick (Testament), Bernth and many more.
On November 14th, 2025, Dustin met Gerry McAvoy (legendary bass player of Rory Gallagher) at a gig with Gerry's "Band Of Friends" at the "Village" in Habach, Germany.
